Three marine terminals at the Port of Oakland are operating partially and the largest terminal is closed Thursday after truckers effectively shut down terminals Wednesday in protest of California's gig worker law, port officials said.

The protests started Monday and were making the container congestion at the port worse, according to the port, whose officials are urging an end to the shutdown.

California adopted the gig worker law, Assembly Bill 5, in 2018, establishing the rights of many independent contractors as employees. Independent contractors have opposed it because they argue it limits the flexibility of their work arrangements.

The courts have upheld it. The U.S. Supreme Court declined to review it, letting the ruling in lower courts stand.

One man was killed and another man was wounded in a shooting early Thursday morning in Antioch, police said.

Officers responded at 12:59 a.m. to reports of gunshots fired in the 300 block of Lawton Street.

The two victims were located in a residential driveway, and investigators determined they had been injured in a drive-by shooting, police said.

Officers immediately began to administer first aid and called for paramedics, but one victim, a 34-year-old man, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, a 45-year-old man, was transported to a hospital and is currently in stable condition, according to police.

No arrest has been made in the shooting and police have not released any suspect information.

The pair are also suspects in robberies around the Bay Area. Watson was booked into county jail on suspicion of murder, two counts of robbery and conspiracy, while Washington was booked on suspicion of murder, two counts of robbery, conspiracy, burglary, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and allowing someone to discharge a firearm from his vehicle, according to the Sheriff's Office.

A motorcyclist died in a crash at a U.S. Highway 101 off-ramp in Millbrae on Wednesday night, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

The crash was reported shortly after 9:45 p.m. in the area of the Millbrae Avenue off-ramp from southbound Highway 101, CHP Officer Art Montiel said.

A San Francisco man in his 50s appeared to try to go off the highway at the off-ramp but lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into a wall, Montiel said. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The man's name was not yet available from the San Mateo County coroner's office.

The off-ramp was closed for more than two hours, reopening early Thursday morning, according to the CHP.

A 48-year-old man had his initial court hearing Wednesday on assault with a deadly weapon charges for allegedly stabbing another man at San Francisco International Airport a day earlier, prosecutors said.

Samuel Day is accused of stabbing a 23-year-old airport employee in the baggage claim area of SFO's Terminal 3, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office.

San Francisco police responded around 4:55 a.m. Tuesday to the report of the stabbing and learned that Day, who is suspected to have mental health problems, was seen running around the luggage carousels with a steak knife and then suddenly stabbed the airport worker in the back, prosecutors said.

The employee was taken to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital with a 2-inch stab wound. The injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Day ran off following the stabbing but was arrested shortly afterward and gave no explanation for why he stabbed the airport employee. He was sick and unable to come to the initial arraignment hearing Wednesday, so the hearing was continued to Thursday, prosecutors said. Day remains in custody with bail set at $100,000.
